 Swami Rama Tirtha was a recognized saint who was said to have been a living Vedantin, a notable follower of Hindu philosophy of Vedanta. He saw and felt God in all his forms. It was told that his presence was both mesmerizing and enchanting. He was greatly influenced by Swami Vivekananda. After meeting the great Swami, a desire to know God was ignited. He decided to take his family and move to the Himalayas. There he became God-realized and after a few years he returned to the plains to teach. Soon, he was invited abroad and over the next few years he traveled to Japan, Egypt, and the USA. He was one of the first teachers to spread the Vedanta teachings internationally. |

Summary
He was born Gossain Tirtha Rama on October 22, 1873, in Mirariwala village, in the Punjab which is now part of Pakistan. His mother died when he was very young and he was raised by his elder brother, Gossain Gurudas. From an early age, he showed a great interest in scriptures and religious rituals. At the age of ten, his father arranged his marriage. He then left under the care of Bhakta Dhana Rama, whose purity and simplicity, was to bring Gossain to regard him as his guru. He always consulted him before doing anything. He was an outstanding student and after completing his degree in mathematics he served for a time as a professor in the Forman Christian College. It was at this time that his spiritual life started to develop after reading Gita. He became a devotee of Lord Krishna, and his vision of Sri Krishna, inspired him to start delivering lectures on Bhakti, with the help of the Sanatana Dharma Sabha, of Lahore. Soon, Rama resigned from his post and left for the Himalayas with his wife and two sons. After his travels, he returned to India settling in the Vasishtha Ashram. His health began to deteriorate and on October 17,1906, at the young age of thirty-three, he died in the Ganges.
