Yamada Ryoun Roshi is the son of the late, great Yamada Koun. Koun was one of the most influential teachers of the 20th century and was head of the Sanbo Kyodan. Yamada Ryoun is the current abbot of the Sanbo Kyodan. In addition, he is the current Zen master of San'un Zendo in Kamakura, Japan. Yamada is also a successful businessman and headed the Itoki Corporation. |

Summary
Yamada Ryoun Roshi was born in 1940 in Manchuria. At the age of 16, he became a disciple of Yasutani Roshi. By 1978, he finished his formal training under his father Yamada Koun Roshi. He received his Dharma transmission in 1985. Sanbo Kyodan is a lay organization of Zen, so Yamada also worked at Mitsubishi Bank and Mitsubishi Securities. [1] He was also head of the Itoki Corporation. He became abbot of Sanbo Kyodan in 2004.
