Summary
The 7th Drogchen Tenzin Longdock Nyima Rinpoche was born in Amdo in 1974. In 2003, he was recognized by the Chinese government as the seventh incarnation of the Drogchen. His father was Tsering Gyaltsen of the Magyal clan and his mother was Dondrup Drolma of the Adro clan, the same clan of the 6th Dzogchen Rinpoche. He was a very compassionate child and was totally against violence. One day when he was seven years old, he witnessed hundreds of yaks and sheep being slaughtered. This horrified him and convinced him to lead a monastic life, so he joined the Dzogchen Monastery. His uncle, Tulku Pema Kalsang Rinpoche, worked at the monastery and raised Tenzin. When he turned fifteen he moved to the Shira Sing Buddhist University and took ordination with Great Khenpo Dawa Osel. In addition to his Dharma education, he studied grammar and poetry. Continuing his studies, Rinpoche received teachings on all the important sutras and tantras from many spiritual tutors, including Khenpo Dawa Osel, Minyak Khenpo Tsering Nyima, Gegyal Khen Rinpoche Tubten Namgyal, Geymang Khenpos Wanglo, and Minyak Khenpo Zara Chodrak. Pandita Pema Tsewang taught him the main scriptural commentary sections of madhyamaka, prajnaparamita and logic, together with the treatises of Mipham Rinpoche. Rinpoche was naturally very intelligent, and at the age of eighteen having mastered a great many teachings, he was appointed as an assistant professor in Shira Sing Buddhist University.[1] At the age of twenty, he went to study with Great Khenpo Chokyab Rinpoche, an old realized lama of the Serta district. He studied with the great lama for two years. He taught him much about the Nyingma tradition including the personal instruction section of Dzogpa Chenpo. When he returned to Shira Sing, he was given the title of Khenpo and giving classes on subjects such as the Middle-Way and Perfection of Wisdom. Dokden lama then gave Rinpoche the complete Dzogchen transmission lineage, the experiential guidance of the Innermost Esoteric Heart Essence. At the age of twenty-seven, Dokden lama gave him full ordination. Lama Tulku Pema Kalsang Rinpoche and Drukpa Tulku Tupten Nyima bestowed upon him the entire collection of maturing empowerments of the Nyingma tradition, including all the supporting transmissions and liberating guidance.
