Rabbi Benayahu Shmueli (sometimes spelled Shemueli) is a controversial figure in modern Kabbalah. He succeeded Rabbi Moredchai Sharabi Zt'L as Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Nahar Shalom. Some contend that the Yeshiva is now full of drug addicts and criminals and is far too loose. Rabbi Scmueli is known for bringing ex-convicts to religion. Rabbi Shmueli says he is the Rosh HaMekubalim, which is the head of the Sefardic Kabbalists. Some suggest that he has just decided to give himself that position. More controversy surrounded the Yeshiva when two of their former students were linked to child torture under the leadership of a Rabbi Chen. There has never been any proof that Shmueli promoted the idea of child torture. |
