Summary
Baba Baruch, born Baruch Abu-Hatzera, is the son of Baba Sali, one of the most well respected Jewish tsaddiqs (saints) in the 20th century. He was educated by his father in southern Morocco, but spent much of his time in Paris, which caused him to part with his religious ways. When his father went to Israel in the 1960s, Baruch joined him. He wanted to enter the political sphere and became deputy mayor of Ashkelon. He was arrested for corruption and bribery and served 5 years in prison. When his father passed away, Baruch was able to maneuver his way into taking over for him, despite his past and the fact that he was not very involved with the faith. Despite all this, Baba Baruch found a way to earn the love of his father's followers and to grow the organization that his father built. He has built a sanctuary and a precinct and is in the process of building a religious campus and residential quarter. Baba Baruch is now considered the rightful heir to his father's place and is now considered to be a saint himself.
