Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji, also known as Yogi Bhajan and Yogi Harbhajan, was a spiritual leader of the 3HO movement (Healthy, Happy, Holy), which he founded in 1969. Under his watch, the movement grew into an international NGO (non-governmental organization) with over three hundred centers in thirty five countries. In 1994, 3HO became a consultant member of the United Nations NGOs, assisting with human rights, women’s issues, and education. Central to the 3HO movement was the practice of Kundalini Yoga, which Yogiji ended up teaching to thousands of students. He founded the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association and the KRI (Kundalini Research Institute) which today continues to train teachers. He also established many drug rehabilitation programs and business enterprises such as Yoga Tea. He left behind a prolific body of teachings. He was a deeply devoted Sikh, who inspired thousands of people to embrace the Sikh way of life. |

Summary
Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji was born on August 26th, 1929, in Gujranwala, Pakistan. He had a privileged upbringing as the son of a medical doctor. At the age of eight, he began his yogic training with Sant Hazara Singh. At the age of sixteen, he was recognized as a Master of Kundalini Yoga. At eighteen with the partition of India in 1947, he led his village of 7000 people out of Pakistan into India. He then studied at the Punjab University, graduating with a degree in Economics. He worked for the Indian government for a time whilst teaching yoga by night. Finally, in 1968, at the age of thirty-nine, he immigrated to the United States. Arriving in Los Angeles, he met some hippies and he realized that the experience they were looking for could be achieved through the Science of Kundalini Yoga. Breaking with tradition, he began to teach it publicly giving people an alternative to the prevalent drug culture of the time. From humble beginnings, his organization spread. Harbhajan Singh died on October 6th, 2004.
